In Memory of Stan by John R. Wilson on behalf of the ITBA

I must have known Stan through bowling for at least 30 years, if not more. We first met in Stillorgan Bowl, the date is irrelevant, because a friendship developed as we met and bowled in various competitions, up and down the country. Stan loved his bowling and hated missing any chance to bowl competitively (as we all do). I had the good fortune to have bowled, successfully with Stan, both home and away. We bowled in Hamburg (ESBC) in Florida (Florida International Bowling Tournament), France (the Paris New Year Singles & Doubles) and on the Senior Triple Crown Team in Jersey. We had some great times, made lots of international friends and nearly always came away with medal, trophy or prize.

Stan’s peak in bowling came when he out-bowled everyone in the Final and won the Senior Championships in Coolock (2001).

My main memories of Stan are:

  • He was always looking for the perfect ball fit for his hand, and kept Barry busy in the Proshop.
  • He would never refuse to bowl in any competition and would bowl as a pacer, if he could not play in the competition.
  • Stan was always in good spirits, loved a bit fun and chat and I’ve never known him to have a bad word to say about anybody.

Stan served on the ITBA Senior Sub-Committee and the Technical Committee for many years.

Stan was very supportive and gave me some work-choices advice that changed my career and life, for which I never forget.

It is hard to believe your gone Stan. May your memory last a long time.

Senior Triple Crown 2020 Postponed

Due to the ongoing health issue and with current travel restrictions in place, in the best interest of bowlers, coaches, managers etc. we have made the decision to postpone the Senior Triple Crown scheduled for 24th to 26th April 2020.

This has not been an easy decision but as things are changing daily and the uncertainty of how long this will go on, we thought it best to make the decision now rather than wait any longer.

We wish you all well in this very difficult and unprecedented time.

Stay Safe Everyone!
