At the end of every season we look for feedback from the Rocks Jewellers bowlers so we can make changes that will improve the monthly and end of season final events for the members.
Please take the time to give us not only the feedback on the 2018/19 season but also any thoughts or ideas you feel will improve or change the format for the benefit of all members whether they be scratch or handicap.

Both printable and online entry forms are now available for the 2020 Irish Open Tenpin Bowling Championship in association with STORM, 900 GLOBAL & 3G.

Having narrowly missed out on medals in the Singles and Doubles events, Pat’s overall combined performance in the All Events (Singles, Doubles & Trios) gave her a Bronze Medal place on the podium in the 28th European Senior Bowling Championships (ESBC) in Bologna, Italy.
Pat’s All Events placing also gave her entry into the Masters Final where today, the top 6 players would go head to head to determine the overall ESBC champions. In a tough 5 game format where the lowest scoring bowler is eliminated after every game, Pat was up to the challenge and fought her way right through to the Final match and came home with the prestigious Silver European Tenpin Bowling Federation (ETBF) medal. Applications are now being taken for Wildcard Position(s) to roll off and represent Ireland at the Adult Triple Crown. Applications are also being taken for an Exemption Position for a direct spot on Team Ireland. For application the form available from the Team Ireland Forms and Documents page has been made available.
The Charlestown Summer Super Split Singles 2019 is now accepting entries for the tournament running from June 10th to July 14th with finals on July 16th. The entry form is now available on the Leisureplex page.
The Finals for the 2018/19 Rocks Jewellers Singles kicked off bright and early on Sunday May 19th with an 8:00am check-in for bowlers, organisers and Leisureplex staff.
Based on the end of season feedback from the members last year we returned to the “Double Elimination” finals format in both Scratch and Handicap sections which went down very well on the day with bowlers and spectators alike as many of the head to head matches were decided in the 10th frame.
Congratulations to all the 2019 finalists and to Paddy Gibbons (Winner – Handicap) and Karl Dryer (Winner Scratch) who went on to take the titles for the 2018/19 season. Both Paddy and Karl were beaten in the 3rd round winners’ section and as a result had to battle the long way through the Losers section to get to the Double Elimination Final.
Paddy faced off against Eoghain Lebioda who remained unbeaten in the ‘Winners’ section of the Handicap section and was the bowler who beat Paddy early on to put him in the Losers Section. This rematch had it all, Eoghain started slowly with a couple of open frames as Paddy was steady throughout to take a 34 pin lead into the second game. Eoghain was out of the blocks early and with 3 frames to go the match was level, Paddy closed out with an important double to force Eoghain to double in the 10th , he got the first but didn’t convert the second allowing Paddy to take match by 425 to Eoghain’s 419 and force a decider as the bowlers had now only lost 1 match each. With only 9 pins separating them after the 1st deciding game, it was back level after 5 frames of the next game, when Paddy once again found the pocket and struck out to take match by 466 to 412 and with it the 2019 Handicap title.
In the Scratch section Final Grant Dugan struggled early in the match and was 88 pins down in game one to Karl’s 243 who forced the double Elimination decider with a 453 to Grant’s 303. Karl continued to exert the pressure in the decider and took a 26 pin lead into the final game but despite a closing 234 from Grant was never really in any danger as he struck 10 times to post a 268 game and take the match and the Scratch title by 486 to Grant’s 426.

Congratulations also go to Arunis Bulnis who rolled a personal best high score game of 267 during the finals.

Congratulations to the Senior Ladies Triple Crown team who played magnificently in Lisburn and came home with the Ladies Shield for the first time since 2013.

A clash of dates with the Senior Triple Crown in Lisburn contributed to the low turnout of 28 bowlers for the final qualifying event of the Rocks Jewellers 2018/19 season. The Kegel Wall Street 40ft oil pattern provided good scoring on the morning where 10 bowlers were ahead of par (200 Avg.) and Gareth Williams provided great excitement in the 4th game when he put 12 strikes together for a 300 game.
Paul Chandler topped the Scratch qualifying with an 1151 series (230 avg) and was drawn against Karl Dryer (who qualified 4th) in the first semi-final match. Paul got off to a fast start with a spare and a treble to lead by 20 pins after 5 frames as Karl was unable to carry. With Karl hitting a double thru 7 frames and Paul having an open frame in the 7th the match was level. Paul put 3 strikes together to close out but it wasn’t enough to hold off Karl who finished with 4 strikes to move into the final with a 226 to Paul’s 222.
The 2nd semi-final between Gareth Williams and Grant Dugan was tight with only 1 pin separating them in a low scoring match where both players opened twice in the first 8 frames. Grant who had only one strike up to this found form and struck out with 4 more to take the match and his place in the final by 187 to Gareth’s 177.
Despite a late rally, Karl, who had opened 4 of the first 6 frames, couldn’t overcome the 70 pin deficit in the final to lose with a 157 to 198 for Grant’s first win of the season.
For the second event in a row a Junior bowler has led Handicap qualifying. Taylor Williams using the “2 handed style” qualified with 1202 and played P J Shine in the first semi-final. Taylor had a couple of openers early on but used a double and treble to move into the final by 225 to P J’s 212.
A fast start with a double for Ken Foley was unfortunately followed by 4 open frames in the next 6 to give Anthony Byrne a 30 pin cushion in semi-final 2. Anthony closed out with a double to progress to the final by 228 to Ken’s 179.
The Handicap Final was hotly contested with both players hitting 8 strikes in a high scoring match.Taylor had the edge bowling a clean game for 274 incl. hcp to outscore Anthony who had a couple of open frames in his 235 game.

The 2019 End of Season Finals will be held on 19th May and will, as advised previously, revert to the Double Elimination Matchplay format.
