Rocks Jewellers Singles End of Season Finals 2020 – Results

An early 8:00 am check-in for bowlers in the first round, ready for the “Double Elimination” finals format in both Scratch and Handicap sections. 8 hours later at around 4:00 pm, 48 head-to-head matches completed (each match decided on – 2 games total pinfall) we were down to the Scratch and Handicap finals.

Paolo DiTofano had lost to Brian in the Winners section 3rd round by 421 to 370 and had fought his way back through the Losers section for the rematch. Paolo started strongly and remained in front throughout to take a 19 pin lead (210 -191) into the final game. Unable to maintain his form Paolo opened 3 frames (2 splits and a 9 miss) to post a 183 to Brian’s 217 (1 split) giving Brian the match and Handicap title by 408 to 393.

Karl Dryer just couldn’t get anything to go his way in the first game of the Scratch section Final and found himself 44 pins down (159 – 203) to Gareth. Game 2 was a different story, Gareth started with 4 strikes followed by a 9 miss, Karl started with 3 strikes and a split and then closed out the game 8 strikes in a row to post a 264 game. This meant Gareth had to close the 10th frame to win, which he did to score 226 and in doing forced the double elimination decider with a 429 win to Karl’s 423.

Karl continued to exert the pressure in the opening game with a 245 to Gareth’s 231 to take a 14 pin lead into the deciding game. An opening split for Karl, another in the 5th frame gave Gareth a 54 pin lead at halfway which was enough to carry him through to take the match with a 209 to Karl’s 169 and the Scratch title by 440 to Karl’s 414.

The Last Rocks Jewellers Singles Grand Prix 19:12:2021

Thanks to the bowlers who have participated and supported the Rocks Jewellers Singles over the past 10 seasons, thank you for your kind words when we’ve talked at the last  2 qualifying events and again at the Finals on Sunday and your WhatsApp posts, they are very much appreciated.

It’s been great to be involved from the start, to run an event that spans all age groups, genders and abilities and see so many bowlers at different levels improve and advance to higher levels in that time.

None of this would have been possible without the continued support of Victor Rock & all at Rocks Jewellers for their sponsorship of the Rocks Jewellers Singles event over the last 10 years.

Many of you have asked …… whats next ?

Our view  …… maintain the above coverage whatever the format is – its good for bowler development, social interaction and competitiveness.

Whether individually or combined it is down to You, the bowlers to get involved, put ideas foward you think will work, talk to Centres, Pro Shops, ITBA committees and potential sponsors to move those ideas forward.

Signing out for the last time and wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Covid free New Year.

Rocks Jewellers Singles Finals 2018 – Results

It’s hard to believe we’ve just completed the eighth year of the Rocks Jewellers Singles.  The Finals in Leisureplex Stillorgan on Sunday May 13th provided an action packed event for players and spectators alike through a combination of high scores and plenty of excitement as many matches went down to the last ball.

You can see how all 32 finalists fared throughout the day as all the results (Scratch & Handicap – Winners & Losers sections) and Prize-winners details  are now available on the web with the individual match scores. click here  Photos from the day will be posted in the Photo Gallery.

Congratulations to Barry Foley (Winner – Handicap) and Paul Stott Jnr (Winner Scratch) who went on to take the titles for the 2017/18 season in the Double Elimination finals.

Barry Foley, who remained unbeaten in the ‘Winners’ section of the Handicap section still needed to produce a 278 game in the Final to hold off a late charge from Thomas Galvin.

In the Scratch section Final Alan McDonnell could not hold off a determined Paul Stott Jnr who started the final with a 299, going on win that match 513 to 420 to force a decider in the double elimination final format which he won 438 to Alan’s 388.

Our thanks go to the management and staff in Leisureplex Stillorgan for their support throughout the long Finals day. We would also like to thank Victor Rock & all at Rocks Jewellers for their continued sponsorship and support of the event which will continue again for the 2018/19 season  with the first event on Sunday September 2nd in Stillorgan – see the web calendar for all the 2018/19 dates.  We would also like to thank John Dunne and Tim Dawson for their web support in posting our results and updated throughout the season.

Over the past eight years we’ve taken input from the club members at the end of each season on ways to improve the monthly events and end of season finals. A new format was used this year for the Monthly events where players could opt to play in the Handicap ONLY section and this change went down very well. We used a new Group Format for the End of Season Finals yesterday with mixed feedback on the day, so while it’s still fresh in your mind – in the next couple of weeks we will once again be asking for your input on the Rocks Jewellers Singles – monthly format, monthly finals, qualification for the Overall Finals, etc etc. so get your thoughts together and let’s make sure the 2018/19 Rocks Jewellers Singles continues to be successful and enjoyable for all.

Rocks Jewellers Singles 2017/18 – Event 6 Results

February’s Rocks Jewellers Singles event did not produce quite the same high scoring as the previous month as players had to work a little harder to find strikes on an oil pattern with less volume than previous months.

Scores could still be found, however, as proven by Barry Foley’s leading total of 1197 in qualifying. He was joined in the Scratch finals by Paul Stott Jnr (1175), Joe Clancy (1139) and Paddy Dunne (1135).

In the Handicap section, Fran Puzzouli (1180) took the top seed position, with Gareth Shannon (1155), Paddy Gibbons (1151) and Sheron Sweeney (1144) making up the semi-final line-up.

The semi-finals threw up little in the way of surprises as the number one and two seeds won their matches in both sections to set up a face-off between the best players of the day in both sections.

Scratch Semi Finals

  1. Barry Foley 259 .v. Paddy Dunne 193
  2. Paul Stott Jnr. 223 .v. Joe Clancy 185

Handicap Semi Finals

  1. Fran Puzzouli 215 .v. Sheron Sweeney 210
  2. Gareth Shannon 257 .v. Paddy Gibbons 232

In truth both Finals played out in much the same fashion as the semi-finals, with the top seeds always in control and never really looking like they were going to allow the lower seed to put the pressure on them and snatch the victory away from them. In the end the top players took home the winner’s prizes after another great round of action in the Rocks Jewellers Singles.

Scratch Final

Barry Foley 226 .v. Paul Stott Jnr. 180

Handicap Final

Fran Puzzouli 257 .v. Gareth Shannon 180

Another good turnout this month with 40 bowlers, congratulations to the winners Barry Foley (Scratch Division) and Fran Puzzouli (Handicap Division), PJ Shine (Rocks Jewellers Earrings Raffle Winner) all the finalists and everyone who played. Also special mention must go to Colm Cloake who bowled a perfect 300 game in game two of qualifying!

Full details from Event 6 are available on the Rocks Jewellers Tab/Results

The next event is on Sunday 4th March
